PROSPECTIVE STUDENT

Q:

How do I apply to the CMB Program?

 

A:

Applications are due December 15th for the following Fall admission. An online application is submitted to the UW-Madison Graduate School along with an application fee of $45. Additional materials must be sent directly to the CMB Office. Go to Apply to CMB page for detailed instructions.

Q:

What financial support is provided by the CMB Program?

 

A:

Incoming students are provided with an annual stipend. The stipend for 2006-2007 is $22,750. Incoming CMB students who will be doing rotations also receive a Welcome Week check upon their arrival Fall semester to help defray first semester expenses. Tuition costs are remitted during the time of study as a CMB student. Please see our Financial/Benefits section in the handbook for more detail.

Is health insurance available?

 

A:

Low cost health insurance is available to CMB students and their families. Coverage is comprehensive and does include dental. Please see our Financial/Benefits section in the handbook for more detais

Q:

Is the University accredited?

 

A:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has been continuously accredited since 1913. The University undergoes reaccredidation every 10 years by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

 

CURRENT STUDENT

Q:

How many credits do I need to register for each semester?

 

A:

Typically Full-time, Pre-dissertator students register for 8-12 credits for the Fall & Spring semesters and 2 credits during the regular 8-week summer session. Full-time Dissertators register for 3 credits during Fall, Spring & Summer terms. Please see the Registration section of the CMB handbook for more detail.

Q:

I've scheduled my Thesis Defense; what do I do next?

 

A:

Please contact the CMB Office; let them know your defense date at least three weeks in advance; pick up a Ph.D. Final Approval Form. See Ph.D. defense section in the CMB handbook for more detail.

Q:

How do I apply to be a faculty trainer in the CMB Program?

 

A:

The CMB Coordinating Committee accepts applications each April & October for review. To download an application, please see our Forms page.

Q:

What are the responsibilities of a faculty trainer in the CMB Program?

 

A:

Faculty responsibilities include training new students, advising CMB students, serving on program committees and participating in recruiting, orientation, and other CMB activities. Please see the Faculty Responsibilities section of the CMB handbook for more detail.
