Speaker: Andrew Fire, Stanford

Topic: "Mechanism and control of RNAi"

Title: "Some Unusual Structures Associated with Gene Silencing in C. elegans"

Location: Room 1360, Genetics Biotech

Food and drink at 6:10, talk at 6:30

Andy Fire performed breakthrough studies that discovered RNA-mediated interference (RNAi), for which he received the Nobel Prize in 2006. His work spawned the burgeoning technology to knock down gene expression using siRNAs. Andy pioneered studies of gene expression in C. elegans, especially tissue-specific regulation during development. His work combines genetics with clever molecular experiments to address fundamental questions. His remarkable creativity, coupled with his helpful, generous, and collegial personality are models for us all.
